Caring 4 Mental Illness(C4MI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established to spread awareness and educational opportunities, provide support, and create scholarships for future mental health professionals & those in need. Our mission is to advocate, educate, and support those in need. Our vision is to empower people to change the narrative of mental illness.
Hundreds of millions all over the world live with a form of mental health disorder. Several million more suffer without ever understanding the challenges they are facing.

One of the main reasons for the continual suffering of mental disorders is the avoidance of treatment. The stigma attached to mental illness is often negative and dismissive.

The professional definition of mental illness is “a significant dysfunction in a person’s thinking, emotional control, and behavior.” People dealing with mental disorders often find it difficult to relate to family and friends.
Mental illnesses do not arise from personal weakness or character flaws.
An important concept to remember is that the symptoms of mental illness can vary in intensity and duration. Mental disorders affect people of all ages, cultures, educational backgrounds, genders, income levels, races, or religions. With the right medical care, mental illness is treatable. In fact, the majority of patients undergoing mental-health treatments are helped to improve their quality of life.

Our mission is to advocate, educate, and support those in need. We want to be a resource for those who are dealing with someone with a mental illness such as a family member, friend, co-worker, or yourself who doesn’t know what to do or where to go.

Serving individuals and families by offering a centralized location for resources that may otherwise be hard to find in time of need. We know that finding the right resources can be very challenging and often a search starts off-“Where do I start?” We would like to assist in finding a starting point that guides you in the right direction to finding the resources you need in any mental illness situation.
So What Is Mental Illness?
Mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in thinking, emotion, or behavior (or a combination of these). Mental illnesses are associated with distress and/or problems functioning in social, school, work, or family activities.
Mental illness is common. In a given year:
- nearly one in four of the U.S. population experience some form of mental illness
- one in 24 (4%) has a serious mental illness
- one in 12 (8%) has a substance use disorder*
The good news is mental illness is treatable. Many individuals with mental illness continue to function in their daily lives.
